COMMAND #9 PART 1 - FOLLOW ME AS I FOLLOW CHRIST

1 MONTH GOAL

  1. PREPARE ALL MEMBERS OF OUR POWER OF 12 TO ATTEND MONTHLY RALLY.

  2. RECRUIT DISCIPLES. (Goal: Complete the level of leadership we are on. People need to be discipled.)

Note: If we don’t have 12, there are 12 that God has for us to take care of and disciple,

we just need to pray and search for them.)

  3. BUILD RELATIONSHIPS WITH OUR DISCIPLES.

COMMAND #9 – FOLLOW ME AS I FOLLOW CHRIST

1. THE FIRST STEP TO BEING A SPIRITUAL LEADERS IS ACCEPTING THE CALL TO FOLLOW CHRIST. (Jesus is asking us to
Matthew 4:19-20 (AMP) 19 And He said to them,“Follow Me [as My disciples, ACCEPTING ME AS YOUR MASTER AND TEACHER AND WALKING THE SAME PATH OF LIFE THAT I WALK], and I will make you fishers of men.” 20 Immediately they left their nets and followed Him [becoming His disciples, BELIEVING AND TRUSTING IN HIM and following His example].

You have no influence if people don’t believe and trust you.

Question: What are ways to build trust?

This is why everything you say is either BUILDING your influence or DESTROYING your influence. When you break the pattern that you’ve been taught, you lose influence. People know the pattern.

You break the pattern when you’re not participating.

You break the pattern when you go a different direction.
A. THE CALL TO FOLLOW MUST BE ACCEPTED. (There must be some level of trust built

if they will become true followers and disciples. The first level of trust might just be because we are part of an organization they trust. This is called delegated trust, but this is not enough to lead them in the long run. To lead them in the long run we must build personal trust.)

B. THE GOAL OF LEADERSHIP IS TO DEVELOP OUR PEOPLE TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL AND ACCOMPLISH THEIR PURPOSE. (Jesus illustrated this when he called us to be “fishers of MEN.” The goal is always people.)
Note: Purpose is always attached to people, not things or position. Question: How much time are spending just developing PEOPLE?

C. UNTIL OUR PEOPLE GET TO THE POINT THAT THEY ARE WILLINGLY PICKING UP THEIR CROSS, THEY ARE NOT TRULY FOLLOWING. (To follow, we must be willing to crucify anything that will hinder us from following him: priorities, comfort zones, schedules, entertainment, relationships, money, sins, negative attitudes, etc.)

Matthew 16:24 (NKJV) Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

Question: What are some things that you have crucified to follow Christ?

2. JUST LIKE JESUS CALLED HIS DISCIPLES TO FOLLOW HIM, WE ARE CALLING PEOPLE TO FOLLOW US AS WE FOLLOW CHRIST. (The call to follow is leadership. No one will follow us if we don’t have any influence over their lives.) 1 Corinthians 11:1-2 (ESV) Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. 2 Now I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions even as I delivered them to you.

We need to be careful that we don’t allow the vision to become watered down by the time it gets to your disciples.

Question: In what ways can we maintain the vision and pattern for our disciples? Satan is after the pattern, because if he gets the pattern, he gets the results.

Romans 12:2 (NIV) Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.

We either pattern our lives after this world or we pattern our lives after Jesus! There is POWER in the PATTERN!

Let’s pass on the EXACT pattern, not a similar pattern.

A. ANOTHER WORD FOR LEADERSHIP IS INFLUENCE. (We want to have Godly influence)

Influence: the capacity or power of persons or things to be a compelling force on or produce effects on the actions, behavior, opinions, etc., of others:

We must learn to gain influence, or the people may never change.

B. LEADERSHIP INFLUENCE CAN BUILT OR LOST. (Their are things we say or do every day that build our leadership influence with our people or lose it.)

Question: What are things we can do to lose leadership influence?

Question: What are things we can do to gain leadership influence?
