COMMAND #11 - FISH FOR PEOPLE - PART 1

Let’s begin by reading Matthew 4:19. This scripture we can see that Jesus calls us to be FISHERS OF MEN!
Matthew 4:19 (NLT) Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!”

Fact: We fish for people by presenting the Gospel.

Romans 1:16 (NKJV) For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
We are only PRESENTERS, not SAVIORS. We just present the Good News and let God do the rest.

Question: why is it reassuring to know that you’re just the presenter?

Today we’re going to introduce everyone to something called:

“THE ROMANS ROAD TO SALVATION”

This is a great way to present the Gospel. It uses scriptures found in the book of Romans.

When we present the Gospel, or in other words, the Good News about Jesus Christ, it’s important that we understand all the aspects of it and why it’s so important to us.
We must understand the following:

#1 – WE ARE ALL SINNERS .

Until we admit that we are sinners, we are not in a mental state to be saved because we are in denial of our true condition before God.

Did you know that NO ONE IS RIGHTEOUS? (In other Words, none of us on our own are in a condition that is acceptable to God.)
Romans 3:10 (NLT) As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous not even one.
We have ALL HAVE SINNED AND FALL SHORT. (In other Words, all of us have broken God’s law by falling short of the standards of God, which is Holiness. He is Holy (100% pure and without sin) and we are sinners.)

Righteousness is the condition accepted by God.

No one can qualify for heaven based on their own works.

Romans 3:23 (NLT) For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

Question: What happens if there is a standard and you don’t meet the standard?

Question: Who is the standard?

Sometimes we make the mistake of looking to someone other than Jesus as the standard.

Question: who are the people we sometimes look to as the standard? Why is that a mistake to look to anyone besides Jesus?

BONUS SCRIPTURE: 1 John 1:8-9 (AMP) If we say we have no sin [refusing to admit that we are sinners], we delude ourselves and the truth is not in us. [His word does not live in our hearts.] 9 If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just [true to His own nature and promises], and will forgive our sins and cleanse us continually from all unrighteousness [our wrongdoing, everything not in conformity with His will and purpose].

ALL OF US BECAME SINNERS THROUGH THE FALL OF ADAM. (Our sin nature was passed onto us. We inherited it through our bloodline. We were born sinners and can’t help but sin. We were born enemies of God, choosing our will over His.)
Romans 5:12 (NLT) When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.

#2 – THE CONSEQUENCE FOR SIN IS DEATH.

Sin has an ending and that end is always death. The sentence for sin has already been declared by God. Because of our sin, everyone of us has earned a sentence of death, or another way to say it, punishment for our sin. (a place of punishment for all sinners, a place that is separated from God and all of His blessings for eternity.)

Romans 6:23 (NLT) For the wages of sin is death…

Death means separation from God.

Question: When you sin, what does it cause you to be separated from?

A. THE SECOND DEATH IS THE LAKE OF FIRE FOR ETERNITY. (The lake of fire is called the second death. A place of eternal misery and torment. Everyone will die once, but we don’t have to die twice.)
BONUS SCRIPTURE: Revelation 20:14 (NLT) Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the second death.

#3 – GOOD NEWS: GOD LOVES US!

Since God loves us so much, He has made a way of escape from the consequences for our sin. Good news, even though we have all sinned and have earned the wage of death, God made a way for our sins to be paid for without us having to pay for them.

A. GOD SHOWED HIS GREAT LOVE FOR US BY SENDING JESUS TO DIE FOR US. (We sinned and deserved to Die for eternity but God loved us so much that He sent Jesus on a rescue mission that would cost Him His life. In order to rescue us He would have to suffer and die to pay the price of the sin of mankind. We did the crime and Jesus did the time. The easiest way to say it, Is Jesus took our place. All our sin was placed on Jesus so that He could redeem us. He paid the ransom to set us free. All because He loves us!)

Romans 5:8 (NLT) But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

God sent His Son to die for you while you were in your deepest sin to show how much He loves you, and to show that there is nothing you can do for Him to love you more than He already does!

BONUS SCRIPTURE: John 3:16 (ESV) “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
