COMMAND #11 - FISH FOR PEOPLE - PART 2

Let’s begin by reviewing and rereading Matthew 4:19. This scripture we can see that Jesus calls us to be FISHERS OF MEN!
Matthew 4:19 (NLT) Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!”

Question: What do you think it means to fish for people?

When it comes to fishing, there is a bait and there is a hook.

  • Bait: Love, Kindness, meeting needs

  • Hook: the Gospel

No one fishes with just bait. The purpose of the bait is to get fish to bite the hook. In other words, unless we’re actually preaching the gospel, no one will actually be saved.

The bait is the love and the kindness we show everyone we come into contact with. It is meeting the needs of homes all throughout the city.

The hook is presenting the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The bait draws them in, the hook pulls them out of the darkness.

Romans 1:16 (NKJV) For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

Question: Why is the statement “I am not ashamed of the Gospel,” so important?

The #1 hinderance to sharing your faith is fear!

Let’s all practice saying this together! “I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ!”

Again! “I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ!”

One more time! “I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ!”

It is better to be too bold than not bold enough.

Question: What are some of the fears the enemy tries to put in our heads when we want to share our faith?

Question: In reality, what’s the worst that can happen when we share our faith with someone?

Question: What’s the BEST that can happen when we share our faith with someone?

Question: When it comes to sharing your faith, do you think the good outweighs the bad? If so, how does that influence your practice of sharing the Gospel with people?
