COMMAND #1 - MAKE DISCIPLES

Matthew 28:18-20 ESV And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the earth.

Questions:
1. Who is discipling you?
2. Who are you discipling?

A. JESUS COMMANDS ALL BELIEVERS TO MAKE DISCIPLES.

> Disciples: (mathēteuō/ mä-thā-tyü’-ō) to be a disciple of one to follow his precepts and instructions, to make a disciple, to teach, to instruct , to become a pupil; transitively, to disciple, to enroll as scholar: transitive involving transition; transitional;

> Scholar: people who devote themselves to a particular area of study, any area that they desire to be experts in, attain mastery. a specialist in a particular branch of study, savant, authority.

Matthew 6:24a NLT No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other.

  • You cannot be discipled by 2 people because you will become double and won’t be committed to either one.

  • Until they’re a disciple of one, they’re not committed.

  • You’re a disciple if you’re hearing and doing.

  • If we’re making disciples, we’re going to be teaching and instructing.

  • By definition, there’s already a transaction: a disciple also teaches and instructs. They are not a real disciples if they are not teaching and instructing others. There’s a weight on the disciple. It changes everything.

  • “If you become the leader I am, you can get the results I get” – Pastor Marco

  • I don’t make excuses

  • You will never be a great leader or influencer if you’re teaching a value you’re not living.

  • This shows you’re not whole, or fragmented.

  • You have to be ready to show your people the values that you’re teaching. Being whole and complete is when what you say is what you do.

  • Fragmented: preach holiness, but not holy; preach faithfulness, but not faithful.

  • Once you compromise a little, you’ve become a compromiser.

  • You will duplicate YOU!

  • A lot of leaders cannot transition to another level because they’re not transitive.

  • This is why we always evaluate what we’re doing to see if it’s working.

B. HOW DO WE MAKE DISCIPLES?

1. RECRUIT DISCIPLES. (We recruit disciples by Presenting the Gospel and inviting them to be a disciple.)

  • Until people are ready to commit to being discipled, they cannot be your disciple.

  • It has to be someone you believe in, you can train, you can multiply.

  • You should surround yourself with people you believe in and people that believe in you!

  • It can’t be someone that you believe you’ll be wasting your time with.

2. BAPTIZE DISCIPLES (those that accept Jesus call to be a disciple.)
3. MEET WITH DISCIPLES ON A REGULAR BASIS AND TEACH THEM THE WORD. (The commands of Jesus. Ex. “Go and make disciples of all nations.”)

C. JESUS PROMISES TO BE WITH US AS WE ARE FULFILLING THE GREAT COMMISSION.
(JESUS IS SAYING I WILL CONTINUE TO MAKE DISCIPLES THROUGH YOU.)

LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLE: GREAT LEADERS RECRUIT AND DEVELOP PEOPLE TO BE GREAT LEADERS.
