THE HOLY SPIRIT IS FOR EVERYONE
TODAY’S PASSAGE:
Acts 10:44-48 (NLT) – 44 Even as Peter was saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the message. 45 The Jewish believers who came with Peter were amazed that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles, too. 46 For they heard them speaking in other tongues and praising God. Then Peter asked, 47 “Can anyone object to their being baptized, now that they have received the Holy Spirit just as we did?” 48 So he gave orders for them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Afterward Cornelius asked him to stay with them for several days.
44 Even as Peter was saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the message.
- Whenever the message about Jesus Christ is being taught, the Holy Spirit is ready to fall on those that are listening.
- The Holy Spirit is God’s Spirit. He is active in our lives to guide, comfort, teach, and empower us to walk in purpose.
- A key to receiving the Holy Spirit is to listen intently to the word.
- Whenever you prepare your heart to hear the Word of God, expect the Spirit of God to be present.
John 14:26 (NLT) – But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative–that is, the Holy Spirit–he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.
45 The Jewish believers who came with Peter were amazed that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles, too. 46 For they heard them speaking in other tongues and praising God.
- At this time, the Jewish believers were amazed that God would pour out His Spirit on the Gentiles (those who were not jewish and didn’t practice the same customs as the jewish people).
- The Gentiles were seen as unclean and lower class citizens.
- But since the beginning, God’s plan has always been to rescue and fill all people with his spirit.
Acts 2:17a (NLT) – ‘In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy.
- God wants to pour His Spirit upon everyone who believes!
- Sometimes we can look down on others because they are not like us. However, we should remember that God wants everyone to hear the message about Jesus and receive His spirit.
Then Peter asked, 47 “Can anyone object to their being baptized, now that they have received the Holy Spirit just as we did?” 48 So he gave orders for them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Afterward Cornelius asked him to stay with them for several days.
- We cannot object when a sinner gets saved! We must recognize that the plan of God is for all to be saved!
- This is why we celebrate, rejoice, and make time for people to hear the gospel.
- Sometimes we reject others from knowing Jesus when we judge them, or refuse to tell them about Jesus.
- When people are saved, they receive the Holy Spirit in their lives to transform them, guide them, and empower them.
Acts 2:38 (NLT) – Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit
