THE GREAT COMMISSION IS FOUND IN TWO SCRIPTURES
Scripture #1-
Matthew 28:19-20 (AMP) 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations [help the people to learn of Me, believe in Me, and obey My words], baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always
[remaining with you perpetually—regardless of circumstance, and on every occasion], even to the end of the age.”
Scripture #2-
Mark 16:15-20 (AMP) 15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 He who has believed [in Me] and has been baptized will be saved [from the penalty of God’s wrath and judgment]; but he who has not believed will be condemned. 17 These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents, and if they drink anything deadly, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will get well.”19 So then, when the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord was working with them and confirming the word by the signs that followed.]
The Great Commission: is a mandate given by Jesus Christ in – It reflects the core Christian calling to evangelism, discipleship, and the expansion of God’s kingdom
through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. It emphasizes the authority of Christ, the mission of the church, and the ongoing task of proclaiming the gospel to bring
salvation to all people.
THE GREAT COMMISSION IS A “MANDATE” GIVEN BY JESUS CHRIST TO ALL OF HIS DISCIPLES.
The Mandate to make disciples is NOT given to the world but to His disciples. Only after we accept the call to be a disciple of Jesus Christ can we accept the mandate to make disciples. We can not duplicate what we are not. Jesus is saying first “Be” then “Make”.
Matthew 4:19 (AMP) And He said to them, “ Follow Me as My disciples, accepting Me as your Master and Teacher and walking the same path of life that I walk, and I
will make you fishers of men.”
“DISCIPLE OF JESUS CHRIST”(matheteteuo) one who has accepted the call to be a follower of Jesus Christ with the goal of becoming like Christ through learning,
obeying and teaching His commands. A student, one enrolled as a scholar of the Word of God ( a person who becomes highly knowledgeable in the Word because of
their passionate pursuit of knowing God and His word. One who recruits and enrolls students (registers or signs others up for a course, program, membership,
discipleship). Fully mature disciple of Jesus Christ have acute awareness of the Great Commission and are therefore actively involved in the mission of making disciples.
Declare: “I am honored to accept your call to follow you as your disciple that makes disciples.”
We can’t say we are truly His disciples of Jesus if we are ignoring or disobeying His command to “Go and Make disciples.” This is not a philosophy but a mandate of Christ to all of His disciples.
John 8:31 (AMP) So Jesus was saying to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you abide in My word [continually obeying My teachings and living in accordance with
them, then] you are truly My disciples.
Abide: (meno) to continue, to remain as one and not become another, not depart, to endure.
Assessment Questions:

- Do you have a D.G small group bible study that meets on a weekly basis?
- Who are you discipling?
