DON’T GIVE UP

TODAY’S PASSAGE:

2 Corinthians 4:13-18 (NLT) 13 But we continue to preach because we have the same kind of faith the psalmist had when he said, “I believed in God, so I spoke.” 14 We know that God, who raised the Lord Jesus, will also raise us with Jesus and present us to himself together with you. 15 All of this is for your benefit. And as God’s grace reaches more and more people, there will be great thanksgiving, and God will receive more and more glory. 16 That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. 17 For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! 18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

INTERACTIVE QUESTIONSWhat did you learn from what we just read?
COMMAND #1NEVER STOP PREACHING ABOUT JESUS! (V. 13)
  • At no point in our life should we stop telling others about the Good News of Jesus!
  • Verse 13 says “I believed in God, so I spoke.” We speak to others about Jesus because we believe in him!
  • Our faith in Jesus compels us to go and tell others about how He saves!

Mark 16:15 (ERV) He said to them, “Go everywhere in the world. Tell the Good News to everyone.

INTERACTIVE QUESTIONSWhat is a practical way to tell someone about Jesus?
COMMAND #2NEVER GIVE UP! (V. 16)
  • This a command we should live by! Christians should never quit!
  • We should never give up preaching about Jesus, loving others, caring for the hurting, meeting needs, and telling others about God’s love.
  • Even when we get tired or discouraged, we should remember that people’s lives literally depend on the Gospel being preached!

Philippians 4:13 (NCV) I can do all things through Christ, because he gives me strength.

  • Regardless of how hard things may get, Jesus will give you the strength you need to make it through!
  • Since we can rely on His strength, which is far greater than our own, we don’t ever have to quit or give up!
INTERACTIVE QUESTIONSWe all need Christ’s supernatural strength in our lives. What is one area of your life you need His strength in right now?
COMMAND #3 FOCUS ON GOD! (V.18)
  • Don’t focus on your problems, focus on God!
  • It’s impossible to focus on your problems and God at the same time, so we have to decide what we’re going to focus on.
  • It’s easy to get distracted with the everyday troubles that comes our way, but we have to remember that none of those challenges are permanent.
  • Our present troubles are temporary, but Jesus and His Word will last forever!
  • Choose to focus on Jesus and His Word, not on all of your problems!
INTERACTIVE QUESTIONSWhat present troubles do you need to surrender to God right now? What are some of the negative consequences of being too focused on our present troubles?
CLOSING QUESTIONSWhat is one thing from today’s lesson that you will apply this week?

GIVING

Give eagerly in accordance with what you have, not what you don’t have!

2 Corinthians 8:12 (NLT)
Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have.

Encourage everyone to give their tithes and offerings.
