ALWAYS PREACH THE GOOD NEWS

TODAY’S PASSAGE:

1 Corinthians 15:1-11 (NLT) 15 Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then, and you still stand firm in it. 2 It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told you—unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place. 3 I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. 4 He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. 5 He was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve. 6 After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. 7 Then he was seen by James and later by all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as though I had been born at the wrong time, I also saw him. 9 For I am the least of all the apostles. In fact, I’m not even worthy to be called an apostle after the way I persecuted God’s church. 10 But whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me—and not without results. For I have worked harder than any of the other apostles; yet it was not I but God who was working through me by his grace. 11 So it makes no difference whether I preach or they preach, for we all preach the same message you have already believed.

INTERACTIVE QUESTIONSWhat did you learn from what we just read?
TRUTH #1The Good News saves you!
  • The Good News (also known as the gospel) is centered around what Jesus did for you and for me.
  • Gospel: the good news that Jesus was born, lived, died, and resurrected so that anyone who beleives in him will be saved.
  • The message God wants you to have is not that you’re condemned and have no hope, but instead it’s Good News that you can be saved from sin!
  • If we don’t receive the Good News, then we are only left with bad news (that we are bound by sin and death)
INTERACTIVE QUESTIONSWhy is it so important that we receive the Good News and share the Good News?
TRUTH #2Jesus willingly died for your sins.
  • When Christ died for our sins, He paid the penalty that we ourselves deserved.
  • Jesus didn’t have to die for himself, but he chose to die for us.
  • Jesus died so that we can live.

Romans 6:6 NLT – We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.

  • Just like Jesus died, we must also die to our old sinful ways.
INTERACTIVE QUESTIONSLet’s testify. What is something you died to after giving your life to Jesus? or What is something that you need to die to today?
TRUTH #3We are who we are today because of the Good News!

1 Corinthians 15:10 But whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me

  • Paul was grateful for the Good News and attributed all of his success to God!
  • Everything we do and all we become is a result of God’s hand on our lives.
  • We cannot take credit for our freedom, success, or breakthroughs. It’s all because of Jesus!
  • We must recognized that without God we are nothing. This should compell us to tell more people about this GOOD NEWS!

Romans 1:14-15 “For I have a great sense of obligation to people in both the civilized world and the rest of the world, to the educated and uneducated alike. So I am eager to come to you in Rome, too, to preach the Good News.”

God loves to give and so should we!
