THE INCREDIBLE POWER OF COMMON SENSE
TODAY’S PASSAGE:
Proverbs 3:21-26 NLT – 21 My child, don’t lose sight of common sense and discernment. Hang on to them, 22 for they will refresh your soul. They are like jewels on a necklace. 23 They keep you safe on your way, and your feet will not stumble. 24 You can go to bed without fear; you will lie down and sleep soundly. 25 You need not be afraid of sudden disaster or the destruction that comes upon the wicked, 26 for the Lord is your security. He will keep your foot from being caught in a trap.”
- If you’re not careful, you can lose your discernment and common sense.
- Another word for common sense and discernment is wisdom.
- The Bible makes it clear that all wisdom is from God.
Isaiah 28:29 GNT – All this wisdom comes from the Lord Almighty. The plans God makes are wise, and they always succeed.
- When the Bible tells us to hold on to common sense, we need to remember the source!
- If we don’t walk in close friendship with God, the source of all wisdom, we will not have the common sense and discernment that we need to succeed in life.
- Common sense protects your life from exhaustion and wasted time!
- When you hold tightly to discernment and common sense by holding tightly to your relationship with God, you protect your soul from worry and weariness.
- INSIGHT – Measuring our thoughts and decisions by the standard of God’s Word helps us to root out and reject actions and feelings that will wear you out and leave you exhausted.
- God’s wisdom and discernment will always help us to act in a way that refreshes our soul.
- When we are working to protect our relationship with God, holding on to His wisdom, rejecting any course of action that will harm our soul instead of refreshing it, we will also be completely set free from fear.
2 Timothy 1:7 NLT – For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
- When we put our life in God’s hands, choosing to following His leading, we’ve made the wisest decision of all time.
- There is no fear for a man or woman who belongs to God and is protected by Him.
Psalm 56:11 NLT – I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?
