CALL ON JESUS TO BE SAVED
TODAY’S PASSAGE:
Romans 10: 5-13 NLT – 5 For Moses writes that the law’s way of making a person right with God requires obedience to all of its commands. 6 But faith’s way of getting right with God says, “Don’t say in your heart, ‘Who will go up to heaven?’ (to bring Christ down to earth). 7 And don’t say, ‘Who will go down to the place of the dead?’ (to bring Christ back to life again).” 8 In fact, it says,“The message is very close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart.” And that message is the very message about faith that we preach: 9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. 11 As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” 12 Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. 13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
- Scripture shows us that the only way the law can make us right with God is if we obey it to perfection. But we know this is impossible for man to accomplish because we have a sinful nature.
- Our sinful nature inevitably causes us to break God’s law. As a result, we cannot be saved by trying to obey the law.
Romans 8:3 NLT – The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins.
- Scripture shows that we are not saved by our own good works, but only by putting our faith in Jesus Christ!
- We could not save ourselves from the penalty of our own sin, but Jesus willingly gave his life as a sacrifice so that we can be saved.
- We are saved when we put our faith in Jesus. We must confess that He is Lord and believe that God raised him from the dead!
Acts 4:12 NLT – There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”
- There is salvation in no other name!
- Nothing and no one else can save you except Jesus.
- We should not look to anyone or anything else for salvation. Not our own good works, other false gods, laws or traditions, or anything else that appears good.
- Only Jesus truly saves!
- Without Jesus, you are not saved, no matter who you are, what your upbringing is, where you come from, or what you’ve accomplished in life.
- This puts everyone in the same boat: we are all doomed and need to be rescued!
- GOOD NEWS: salvation is made available to anyone who calls on the name of JESUS!
- God loved us so much, that he made salvation available to each of us through Jesus!
John 3:16 ESV – For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
- The word “whoever” really means WHOEVER!
- This includes the murderer, the cheater, the drug addict, the liar, the adulterer, the abuser…
- Scripture is clear: “EVERYONE who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved”
