FAITH TO MOVE MOUNTAINS

TODAY’S PASSAGE:

Matthew 21:18-22 (NLT) 18 In the morning, as Jesus was returning to Jerusalem, he was hungry, 19 and he noticed a fig tree beside the road. He went over to see if there were any figs, but there were only leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” And immediately the fig tree withered up. 20 The disciples were amazed when they saw this and asked, “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?” 21 Then Jesus told them, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and don’t doubt, you can do things like this and much more. You can even say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. 22 You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.”

INTERACTIVE QUESTIONSWhat did you learn from what we just read?
GROWTH PRINCIPLE #1Miracles are the result of faith-filled prayers
  • The Disciples were amazed at how quickly the fig tree withered away. (v. 20)

  • They witnessed a miracle right in front of their eyes. When they asked how it happened, Jesus made it clear that we (his disciples) can pray with faith and see miracles happen! (v. 21-22)
INTERACTIVE QUESTIONSWhat is one faith-filled prayer that you can be praying for in this season of your life?
GROWTH PRINCIPLE #2 Don’t let doubt conquer your faith.
  • DEFINITION – Doubt: to separate, to withdraw from, to separate oneself, to oppose.
  • In verse 21, Jesus says, “If you have faith and don’t doubt, you can do things like this and much more.”
  • When we doubt, what we’re really doing is withdrawing ourselves from the promises of God.
  • Doubting God is like disagreeing with God.

James 1:6 NLT But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.

INTERACTIVE QUESTIONSWhy do you think Jesus urges us not to doubt when we pray?
GROWTH PRINCIPLE #3You can receive anything when you pray with faith!
  • God wants us to pray with FAITH!
  • DEFINITION – Faith: trusting in God and believing that He can do anything
  • In other words, God wants us to pray with a trust in Him that says, “God, I believe you can do the impossible!”
  • Jesus tells us that we can even pray for a mountain to be lifted up and thrown into the sea and it will happen.

  • Mountains represent obstacles or impossible situations in our lives that hinder us from moving forward or going to the next level.

  • Jesus is reassuring us that we can pray to God with faith that God can move any mountain that may be in our way!

INTERACTIVE QUESTIONSEveryone deals with a mountain at some point in their lifetime. What is one mountain that you are praying to be removed from your life? Or what is a mountain you’ve overcome in the past?
CLOSING QUESTIONWhat is one thing from today’s lesson that you will apply this week?

GIVING

Giving in proportion to what we've received acknowledges God's abundant provision in our lives and shows our trust in Him as the source of all our blessings.

Deuteronomy 16:17 (NLT)
All must give as they are able, according to the blessings given to them by the Lord your God.

Encourage everyone to give their tithes and offerings.
