TRANSFORMED LIVES

TODAY’S PASSAGE:

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 NLT 9 Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, 10 or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. 11 Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

INTERACTIVE QUESTIONSWhat did you learn from what we just read?
TRUTH #1A lifestyle of sin prevents us from the Kingdom of God (v. 9-10)
  • At this time, many people in Corinth were indulging in a lifestyle of sin with no repentence or change, so Paul was writing in a very corrective tone to the church in Corinth.
  • Like the Corinthians, we all have a past stained by the mark of sin

Romans 3:23 NLT – For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

  • Anyone who continues in a life of sin and does not repent (or turn away from their old lifestyle) will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
  • Thankfully, God has given us the way to be forgiven and set free from sin!

John 8:34-36 NLT 34 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. 35 A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.

INTERACTIVE QUESTIONSWhat are some areas you can identify that you needed to "turn away from"? How can you support those around you to avoid falling back into that lifestyle?
TRUTH #2Don't forget where you came from (v.11)

1 Corinthians 6:11a – Some of you were once like that.

  • It’s easy to forget what God delivered you from.
  • Always remember that we are all in need of a savior. It doesn’t matter how far you’ve grow you will still always need Jesus!
  • When we don’t forget where we came from, it helps us lead others to a place of freedom with love and care

Galatians 6:1 NLT- Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path.

  • Let’s not look down on one another, but instead help each other up when we’ve fallen.
INTERACTIVE QUESTIONSWhen it comes to helping others get back up, why is it so
important to remember where you've come from? How can this help others?
TRUTH #3We can be made right through Jesus!

1 Corinthians 6:11b – But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

  • God’s ability to transform us is remarkable. He does not merely save us from our past sins he transforms us into something completely new.

2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT – This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

  • DEFINITION – Cleansed (apolouö): to wash fully, to make thoroughly clean, to get rid of something unpleasant, unwanted or defiling,
  • DEFINITION – “Made holy” (hagiazo): purify, consecrate, sanctify, free from the guilt of sin, purify internally by renewing the soul
  • DEFINITION – “Made right” (dikaio): show or prove to be right or acceptable, put in right standing with God, to make worthy, declare guiltless
  • God’s redemptive power is so thorough and complete that nothing remains of the old man no guilt, no shame, no defiling sin can remain.
  • When we call on Jesus, our lives are completely changed. Who we once were is completely destroyed and we are given brand new lives and Identities in Him.
INTERACTIVE QUESTIONSWhat does it mean to be transformed? In what areas of life have you experienced or witness a transformation personally! How can their transformed identity in Christ in their daily lives?
CLOSING QUESTIONWhat is one thing from today's lesson that you will apply this week?

GIVING

It pleases God when we give sacrificially to those in need.

Hebrews 13:16 (NLT)
And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.

Encourage everyone to give their tithes and offerings.
